Who are we?

The National Commission for Refugees and Stateless Persons is the governmental body responsible for managing refugees and stateless individuals in Benin. It operates under Law 2022-31 of December 20, 2022, concerning the status of refugees and stateless persons in the Republic of Benin, as well as international conventions such as the 1951 Geneva Convention relating to the status of refugees, the 1967 New York Protocol, and the 1969 OAU Convention governing specific aspects of refugee problems in Africa. In addition to these conventions ratified by Benin, the 1954 Convention relating to the status of stateless persons and the 1961 Convention on the reduction of statelessness cases are also applied.
